Koko Apartments

Located in the heart of Brisbane’s hip West End precinct is Koko Apartments. Koko Apartments is the latest corporate/permanent accommodation complex to be established in the area and new managers, Jenny and Ron Tavinor and enjoying their new adventure.

Having only just immigrated to Australia, the Tavinors – formerly from New Zealand – spent two years prior searching for a business opportunity such as Koko Apartments.

Jenny said, “Our kids and grandkids live here in Australia and we were looking for a lifestyle option that would give us and income so we decided management rights was the way to make a living and be with the family with good return and security.”

Jenny said when they first started looking at properties the one place they particularly didn’t want to be was Brisbane. “We were really wanting to be on the Sunshine Coast but when we came to have a look at Koko Apartments we fell in love with the property and ended up going with it because it was riverside and in West End, which is an up and coming area and has great business potential.”

Before coming to Australia, Ron spent 20 years in the air force and later as a community works supervisor while Jenny was always in senior management roles. “Having never done anything like this before this has been a big learning curve, a lot bigger than I anticipated but there has been a lot of industry support, which has been wonderful and we are really enjoying it and luckily we aren’t being adversely affected by the current economic climate.

People are a little nervous because of the economy so we are lucky it is a permanent let complex.”

Having started at the property only a few months ago in February this year, Jenny said the newness and quality of the property means there is nowhere they need to improve. “Being a new development – only two years old – there really isn’t anything to improve although we have been working with the body corporate to improve systems.”

And it seems the Tavinors are quite wrapped in their newest business venture for when asked about their future plans Jenny said, “While nothing is a given, this is new, different, exciting. People say when you have a management rights property you get hooked so it is a matter of seeing where this ride takes us.”
