Rockhampton's iconic The Grand Hotel has been demolished to make way for a two-storey complex worth $2.5 million.
Construction on the new project starts next month and is expected to be finished by January next year.
Capricorn Investment Partners Ltd managing director David French said, "The building was not structurally sound to continue any longer. We hoped it could be refurbished but the hotel was not up to national building standards so it had to be pulled down."
Mr French said he hoped the new complex would revive its predecessor's reputation as a hot spot for Rockhampton musicians.
