RAAA Conference Gets Underway at Coolum

The Regional Aviation Association of Australia Convention commenced yesterday [Oct 10] at the Palmer Coolum Resort, running until 12 October.

The RAAA convention is held over three days incorporating the main speakers program, exhibitor trade show, social networking functions and an official dinner.

Commenting on the convention’s role in the aviation industry, the RAAA convention chairman Steve Padgett said, “The convention is now recognised as one of the region’s leading aviation events. It brings people together from around Australia and internationally, providing an excellent opportunity to discuss major aviation issues, set industry directions, develop technical knowledge and build important business relationships.”

The speakers program will feature an impressive list of high profile industry and government leaders including Anthony Albanese, minister for infrastructure and transport, Warren Truss, leader of the Nationals and senior officers from CASA, Airservices Australia, Caroline Wilkie, CEO of the Australian Airports Association and a special presentation on FIFO, which is a current focus of regional aviation development in Australia.

The speakers program will be enhanced by presentations from John Eales (former captain of the Wallabies), Bernard Salt (leading advisor on consumer, business and demographic trends), and Glenn Martin (the inventor of the Jetpack).

The convention will also incorporate an extensive trade show exhibition to showcase leading aviation companies, supporting industries and professional services.

Apart from the business aspects, the 2012 convention will feature a range of high quality social and networking opportunities which will begin with the RAAA Golf Challenge on Wednesday followed by the Welcome Function cocktail party held airside at the Sunshine Coast Airport with skydiving and aerobatics displays and a Ferrari runway drive-by demonstration. Thursday evening sees the return of the authentic German Oktoberfest event, and the convention closes on a high note Friday night with an exciting evening of entertainment at the Gala Dinner.

This is the 13th year the RAAA Convention has been held on the Sunshine Coast, each year injecting over $550,000 into the local economy and, in total, over $6.6 million during that time.
