Guildford Hotel Ready for Rebuild

An application has been made to refurbish Perth’s once iconic Guildford Hotel that was badly damaged by a fire in 2008.

Following several months of consultation with members of the Guildford Association, the City of Swan and the Heritage Council, the Guildford Hotel Redevelopment Group has finally submitted a formal application to the city. Concept plans include a refurbished hotel in its original heritage colours with a wine bar or boutique brewery, restaurant, bar area, alfresco dining and beer garden.

Upstairs, the proposal incorporates boutique accommodation and a function room. It is also proposed that the southern area of the site include a small retail complex with a high-end fresh market, showcasing local produce from the popular Swan Valley region, as well as four other smaller shops.

Project group lead adviser Jeff Braddock said, “We now must go to public consultation, receive approval for the development with conditions that are acceptable to the owners and then undertake a vigorous marketing program to attract tenants, without whom the proposal cannot be economic,” he said.

“Once tenants are signed up, we then have to seek finance, tender for builders and start construction.”
