NT wants Tiger back in the Red Centre

Tourism NT chief executive John Fitzgerald says it is offering marketing support to Tiger Airways to try to coax the airline back to Alice Springs.

It has been more than six months since the budget airline stopped flying between Alice Springs, Adelaide and Melbourne.

“These are commercial decisions and the airlines need to be convinced that there is a commercial case to operate on certain routes,” he said. “But we believe there is a case for Alice Springs and we are offering considerable marketing support for Tiger to re-enter the market.”

Mr Fitzgerald says he regularly meets with Tiger management. “In those meetings they are saying to us they need absolute on-time performance and reliability before they are going to expand into the market,” he said.
