Big Plans for Wynnum Point Site

Spankie Hotel Group wants to build a five-storey apartment complex and retail precinct in place of Wynnum Point Hotel in Brisbane.

The 3000sq m site on Glenora St has been bought by Spankie Hotel Group, the current owners of Waterloo Bay Hotel.

Owner David Spankie and general manager Spiro Dimopoulos said the company is expected to lodge a development application with the Brisbane City Council within the next two weeks.

Mr Spankie, a former builder, said they originally looked at building 60 units but revised it down to 45 two- and three-bedroom units.

There are also plans for retail shops, a cafe or restaurant and a small supermarket for the ground level.

“If it doesn’t all go to plan, then we’ll renovate the pub and get it going ahead,” Mr Spankie said. “We’ve been hotel operators for 30 years.”
