TQ to Push for More Backpackers

he backpacking industry will get a big slice of Tourism Queensland’s annual budget in 2013, TW chief executive Anthony Hayes announced at the Backpacker and Youth Industry Conference at Novotel Twin Waters Resort this week.

The budget, due for release in September, will provide new funding to entice international tourists to Queensland.

Tourism Australia managing director Andrew McEvoy said, “Backpackers represented just under a third of total international arrivals in 2011. “These people tend to stay for long periods. And they also have a wonderful appetite to explore our country, which is great for dispersal.”
