NT looking at national park investment

Creating a resort in Litchfield National Park is one of the options being mooted by the NT government to boost tourism and investment.

“There is a great opportunity to put some infrastructure into Litchfield whether that is additional hotel/motel/resort-style accommodation,” says NT chief minister Adam Giles. “It is quite possible his government could allow a private developer to buy and redevelop land in some territory parks and build accommodation or theme parks there.”

He said the government was considering formally calling for expressions of interest about how to drive investment in parks.

Changes for the Alice Springs Desert Park are also being considered.

“We could see someone who wants to build resort-style accommodation around the Desert Park,” Mr Giles said.
