Uni to turn army centre into accommodation

Melbourne’s NE University has acquired the Salvation Army’s 11-storey training centre near the Parkville campus plus five houses to redevelop as student accommodation with between 200-300 beds

.The accommodation could be redeveloped and operating as early as 2016 and comes after the university decided not to proceed with plans to expand student accommodation by 2000 beds on-campus.

Melbourne’s senior vice principal Ian Marshman said, “Affordable student housing is essential to the student experience, and the cost of accommodation is one of the key factors adversely affecting it.”
