Deputy Premier Jeff Seeney has announced that 12 companies had paid $100,000 to lodge their formal interest in building the new integrated casino resort developments in Queensland.
Six consortia have been named for The Queen’s Wharf Brisbane development including Echo Entertainment Group Ltd, Crown Resorts Ltd, Lend Lease, Greenland Holdings P/L, Far East Consortium/Chow Tai Fook Enterprises and SkyCity Entertainment Group Ltd.
The six consortia bidding for a casino licence in regional Queensland include Tony Fung’s Great Barrier Reef P/L (Aquis at Yorkeys Knob, north of Cairns); China-Australia Entrepreneurs Consortium P/L (Airlie Beach); Fullshare International (Australia) P/L (26km south of Proserpine); GKI Resort P/L (Great Keppel Island); Eastern Success Group P/L (Nerang) and ASF Consortium P/L (Broadwater, Gold Coast).
The former Laguna Quays Resort has been revealed as a potential site for a new casino. Mr Seeney announced two potential casino resort sites for the Whitsundays. China-Australia Entrepreneurs Consortium has shown interest at Airlie Beach and Fullshare International is looking at Laguna Quays.
The state government, with probity adviser Len Scanlan, will short list the applicants by the middle of this year. Those short-listed would then submit full proposals by late this year. Following final negotiations, a final decision for gaming licences is expected by mid-2015.
A Chinese consortium is wanting to build an integrated resort and casino at Nerang. Ridong Australia, through its Eastern Success Group, is proposing the resort on a 44.89ha riverfront site just east of the railway station.
