Capricorn expansion delayed

Iwasaki Sangyo Company’s $600 million expansion of the Mercure Capricorn Resort at Yeppoon is facing a study by Australian Department of Environment to assess any national environmental impacts.

Iwasaki Sangyo is proposing a new 300-suite resort doubling the present number, air strip, caravan parks, retirement villages and residential dwellings on around 1500ha of its 9000ha landholding. It also includes nature conservation areas and an energy farm.

The referral maintains the development will not directly impact the Great Barrier Reef or the Corio Bay wetlands.
