Casino licence short list announced

Queensland’s deputy premier Jeff Seeney has announced the front runners for four casino licences in the state.

The $7.5 billion integrated resort and cruise ship terminal on the Broadwater by the ASF Consortium has received preliminary approval for a casino licence. ASF must now submit a detailed proposal to the government as part of the next phase of the licensing process.

The $8.15 billion Aquis proposal by Hong Kong billionaire Tony Fung in Cairns has been named prime contender for the other regional licence.

“These projects have the greatest capacity to deliver the requirements for an integrated resort development in the regions, particularly the potential to attract interstate and international tourists as both these centres have international airports,” Mr Seeney said.

Mr Seeney said the other four regional bidders had projects which had not progressed far enough to meet the necessary criteria.

Mr Seeney announced Hong Kong-based Far East Consortium and joint venture partner Chow Tai Fook, and Chinese group Greenland Investment P/L are the two of four to make the short list in the bid to win the right to build Brisbane’s second casino as part of the Queens Wharf integrated resort development.

Lend Lease and SkyCity Entertainment Group P/L have not been granted licences.
