Dunk Is rebuild has start-ed

Dunk Island’s reconstruction is under way, with its reopening to day-trippers scheduled for next month, according to Peter Bond.

Once the rebuilding of the bars and restaurant, spa and the pool was complete, he would consider reconstruction of the resort’s rooms.

“I don’t know about the ac-commodation yet until we decide on the next steps,” he said.

Dunk Island resort was se-verely damaged by Cyclone Yasi nearly three years ago and Mr Bond bought island for $7.5 million in 2012. after it was wiped out by Cyclone Yasi three years ago. The Linc Energy boss plans to create an exclusive six-star $2000-a-night luxury resort as part of a $20 million rebuild.

Meanwhile, the Spit Café will reopen for business on Sat-urday [7 June] and will open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, school holidays and public holi-days. It is run by Mission Beach chef Linton Drake, who operated Flame Café and the Bingil Bay Café.
