Footscray foreshore to be developed
Victorian planning minister Matthew Guy has approved four Footscray apartment towers on the Maribyrnong River.
When complete, the devel-opment by Giancorp Property Group will have more than 750 apartments in four buildings ranging from 16 to 28 storeys high.
Maribynong Council’s pre-ferred maximum height for the area is 12 storeys.
In a press release announcing the tower project, Mr Guy said the planning permit contains several conditions, including a $450 development contribution levy per dwelling and $321 per dwelling for the cost of traffic infrastructure.
Project designer, Plus Archi-tecture’s Ian Briggs, said the foreshore would include new shops and townhouses. “Foot-scray would be one of the best suburbs within two stations of the CBD of Melbourne that has-n’t seen significant redevelop-ment.”
Mr Guy also approved a new 38-level complex in Southbank containing almost 250 apart-ments.
