Mantra ready to go with G20 apartments

Mantra Group has leased the Observatory Tower at the corner of Wickham Terrace and Edward St in Brisbane and will turn the existing residential tower into a full-service hotel in time for the G20 at a cost of about $5 million.

The Mantra on Edward will open in October with 50 of its apartments available for G20 guests.

The 24-storey building boasts a lap pool, gym, spa and sauna.

Mantra CEO Bob East said while major hotels like Mantra South Bank would accommodate VIP guests during the G20, smaller properties were needed to house officials, security personnel and media. He said the G20 would provide only a short-term boost for tourism but the Mantra on Edward’s appeal would endure for years to come because of its large apartment-sized rooms.
