GC highrises – Apollo to join Iluka?

Another “original Gold Coast high rise” may be doomed to the same fate as the Iluka that has been demolished.

The Apollo, built in 1967, has had a chequered history but the present owner since 1993, Singaporean entrepreneur Gertrude Guok is believed to have put the desirable Esplanade 3833m² site on the market. Now known as the International Beach Resort, the 22-storey, 120-apartment building was acquired through Ms Guok’s company Phoenix Investment Holdings from Japanese group Koshin.
