Hotel to feature in Adelaide airport expansion

A 200-room hotel will be a feature proposed as part of a $2 billion expansion of Adelaide Airport’s terminal that will triple the size of the airport building. And the Airport Business District may be operating within five years.

The 4½-star hotel would be located between the new terminal and multi-storey carpark and include meeting and conference areas, bars and restaurants. A partner would be sought for the hotel.

Several multi-storey office buildings are proposed as part of a $2 billion expansion at Adelaide Airport – Australia’s fastest-growing capital city airport for international passengers.

The 50,000m² office complex could accommodate up to 3500 workers in environmentally friendly buildings that would be connected to the airport terminal, retail precinct and new hotel.

Unveiling the plans at the Adelaide Intercontinental Hotel last week, Adelaide Airport Limited managing director Mark Young said, “Airport Business District will be a key economic gateway that integrates zones for commercial, aviation, retail and leisure activities.”

He forecasted a $1 billion investment in the next five years alone and would encompass all aspects of the precinct’s development.

The plans also provide for a light-rail link to the city from the terminal and the 4½-star hotel.
