Push for Brisbane Skytower to be 100 storeys

The Sydney-based developer Billbergia wants its already-approved 90-storey Brisbane Skytower to be allowed to go to 100 storeys and 300m high.

Billbergia is in talks with the Civil Aviation Safety Authority to lift its 274m restriction on building height for the CBD.

Brisbane lord mayor Graham Quirk wants greater flexibility on building heights. “Brisbane will continue to engage with CASA to achieve a flexible outcome for Brisbane CBD’s future development. It would be beneficial if we had more flexibility around the height of buildings in our CBD.”

Billbergia operations manager John Fitzgerald said the he wanted the $1 billion Brisbane Skytower to have the highest habitable units in Australia. The 297m high Eureka Tower in Melbourne has at present the highest habitable space.

“If it goes successfully it’s our intention to take it all the way to 100 storeys, 300m,” Mr Fitzgerald said.

Mr Fitzgerald said the company was in negotiations with CASA about going higher, but the development would go ahead regardless of whether to height cap was lifted.
