Almost 3000 new hotel rooms on Gold Coast by 2026

The ASF consortium has released $7.5 billion plans that almost treble the size of Wavebreak Island to accommodate the cruise ship terminal project.

The new plans include six hotels offering a total of 2885 rooms. One of the hotels could be built on a 5ha government owned site at The Spit gifted to developers for building the terminal.

Up to 35 eco-resort villas and a clubhouse will be constructed on a newly created island called Moon Island north of Wavebreak.

Approvals are unlikely to be granted until 2017 with construction set to finish in 2026, according to the new plans.

The cruise ship terminal was expected to be operating by the Commonwealth Games but the updated planning documents reveal it is unlikely to be built until 2019.
