Gaol destined to be backpackers
The long defunct Freemantle prison in Western Australia is to become a backpacker hostel. YHA will be offering beds in the former female wing of the old gaol from as early as April this year, according to WA chief executive Domenic Pimpinella.
The 196-bed hostel will have private and shared dorms and cottage accommodation designed for families or groups, says Mr Pimpinella.
Jail tours are expected to be included in package accommodation deals. Mr Pimpinella said he hoped the accommodation would be complete by March, with online bookings available from April.
