The team from the Today Show made the Sunshine Coast ‘home’ for a live broadcast this morning (Thursday 1 October).
Karl, Lisa, Richard and a full production crew flew in the day before on a chartered jet to Sunshine Coast Airport for a reception that both Karl Stefanvoic and Richard Wilkins declared as being “the best welcome we’ve ever had anywhere in the world!”
The Today crew were greeted by a jazz band, red carpet and of course sunshine. They were also given famous Buderim Ginger and chocolates from Nutworks to keep them energised after a very early start.
The live show was broadcast from Moffat Beach in Caloundra and attracted a large crowd, including Body Art practitioners previewing the Australian Body Art Festival being held at Eumundi on 18 October, ‘Surfgroms’ showing-off their surfing skills, and a group performing Acra yoga on the beach.
The Sunshine Coast’s famed water activities were just one element of the Today Show’s broadcast. Reflecting the region’s rich agriculture and food heritage, the Today team got their hands milky by attempting to milk a cow brought down to the beach by Maleny Dairy. And Spicers Clovelly chef Cameron Matthews showed why Mooloolaba seafood is considered world-class with a distinctively local breakfast BBQ.
The live broadcast, which was organised by Sunshine Coast Destination (SCDL) in partnership with Tourism Events Queensland (TEQ) and Sunshine Coast Council, caps off a big week for Sunshine Coast Tourism.
“Sunshine Coast tourism is certainly riding on a high,” said Sunshine Coast Destination CEO, Simon Ambrose.
“The airlines are making it even easier for visitors to come for a long weekend or an extended stay, while Today is giving us national coverage of our diverse range of high-quality attractions.
“This long weekend we have the Caloundra Music Festival and over the next four months there is a continuous stream of major events to provide even more reasons for visitors to experience our hospitality.”
