Hamilton Island: it’s a great time to holiday in Australia

With current global conditions across a number of factors influencing the way families choose to holiday, Hamilton Island is experiencing an upsurge in tourism as more visitors are lured to the Whitsundays.

Attracted by a long-standing track record of safety, convenience, accessibility and value for money, Hamilton Island proves it’s a great time to holiday in Australia, with recent figures released by Tourism Research Australia indicating a steady rise in the number of domestic and international visitors to the region.

As many popular holiday hotspots around the world, including favourite destinations such as South East Asia and Europe, fall prey to civil unrest and threats of terrorism, many travellers are exercising a high degree of caution as to where they holiday. With such global instability, Australia will always be on a high security alert, however our stable political system, low crime rate, and high standard of health care make the Whitsundays a safe region to explore and enjoy.

Further influencing holiday decisions is the poor performance of the Australian dollar. While it’s good news for visitors from the US and Europe, for Australians seeking luxury holidays in exotic overseas locations the exchange rate is less than favourable, and many are opting to spend their money within Australia where places like Hamilton Island rival overseas destinations with plentiful sunshine, white sandy beaches, an abundance of family activities, and luxury accommodation.

Kristie Kaighin, owner and operator of Whitsunday Holidays, has noticed a distinct increase in enquiry for their Hamilton Island accommodation, further expounding the data released by Tourism Research Australia.

“Hamilton Island is such a special holiday destination. It has its own airport, making it very accessible. You can fly direct from Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne,” she says.

“It’s such a unique, beautiful part of Australia. There’s no traffic – people use buggies to get around, walk or ride the free shuttle buses. There are beautiful beaches and islands to explore, the Great Barrier Reef, tours and activities to please every family member, as well as a wonderful variety of restaurants and cafes, boutiques and retail outlets, a golf course, yacht club, and thriving marina precinct.”
