Invictus expected to hit Sydney room occupancy

Room occupancy in Sydney can expect a hit next year when the 4^th Annual Invictus Games comes to town from October 18-29, 2018.

To help prepare you for the influx of patrons, here are some key facts about the games you might not have known.

HRH Prince Henry of Wales (Prince Harry) is the Patron and Founder of the Invictus Games, and they are the only international adaptive sporting event of its kind for active duty and veteran servicemen and women.

The Games use the power of sport to inspire recovery, support rehabilitation and generate a wider understanding and respect for wounded, ill and injured servicemen and women. The Games also recognise the significant contribution made by family and friends in the recovery process.

Sydney ‘s Invictus Games will provide an opportunity to develop a legacy of supporting programs and services in the areas of education, mental health, employment and adaptive sport.

Rather than an elite sports competition, the Invictus Games is for competitors of all abilities and seeks to ignite their ‘unconquerable’ spirit. The first Invictus Games was held in September 2014 in London, the second in May 2016 in Orlando; a third will take place in September 2017 in Toronto and Sydney will host the Invictus Games in 2018.

The Games in Sydney will host more than 500 competitors from across 18 nations competing in 10 adaptive sports. The events will be staged across Greater Sydney, including Sydney Olympic Park and Sydney Harbour. It is anticipated the Games will be attended by at least 1,000 families, friends with support from around 1,000 volunteers.
