TripAdvisor ‘streamlines’ hotel comparison app
accomnews spoke exclusively with a TripAdvisor spokesperson about how changes to its native iOS app will impact both travellers and hotel managers.
The new ‘streamlined’ iOS app is available across 48 markets where TripAdvisor operates, and incorporates a redesigned user experience with new features and design elements on the Android native app. Changes to the company’s mobile and desktop websites are set to be implemented in the near future.
While the changes have been implemented to directly improve the user experience of travellers, TripAdvisor’s spokesperson said that it should also benefit hotels and businesses by allowing customers to find and book accommodation and experiences with confidence.
“We believe that a better TripAdvisor experience for travellers is a better experience for hotels and businesses as well. We’ve made it easier for potential customers to find hotels and businesses, and by surfacing the right content at the right time, users can book with confidence. We expect the changes to increase visibility and engagement for our partners and hotel managers,” said TripAdvisor’s spokesperson.
While TripAdvisor could not comment on the impact the changes will have on hotel commissions, it said that the most significant changes would be to user experience, engagement and interaction.
The changes come as a result of TripAdvisor solicited feedback from thousands of users through consumer research, A/B testing, focus groups and usability studies. Research indicated that consumers wanted an experience that more clearly showcased the best prices, location, amenities, user reviews and ratings.
