In a landmark move, Accor has announced its management agreement with Shakespeare Property Group for the iconic Hotel Woolstore 1888, slated to join Accor’s esteemed Handwritten Collection in May 2024.
Originally constructed in 1888, the iconic Darling Harbour property is the fourth oldest of 21 surviving woolstores in Sydney, however, with its contemporary design and industrial-chic interiors with modern and pop art, nothing is old-fashioned about this hotel.

First opening as a hotel in 2013, this four-level property, situated in the heart of Darling Harbour, features 90 meticulously curated guestrooms, a renowned neighbourhood restaurant and wine bar, as well as versatile meeting spaces, including a private dining room.
Richard Saab, Vice President Hospitality Assets and Investments at Shakespeare Property Group, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with Accor, emphasising the Handwritten Collection’s ability to accentuate the hotel’s original character while benefiting from Accor’s renowned hospitality standards and global distribution platforms.
Accor Pacific Chief Operating Officer PM&E, Adrian Williams, echoed the sentiment, citing the increasing demand for boutique accommodation experiences. Williams highlighted the strategic positioning of Hotel Woolstore 1888 to capitalise on this burgeoning market, emphasising the brand’s commitment to curating unique and authentic guest experiences.
Hotel Woolstore 1888 marks the fifth collaboration between Shakespeare Property Group and Accor in Australia, following the success of previous ventures such as Pullman Cairns International, Novotel Cairns Oasis Resort, Novotel Sunshine Coast Resort, and Peppers Marysville.
Located at the corner of Pyrmont and Murray Streets, Hotel Woolstore 1888 enjoys a prime inner-city location, adjacent to prominent landmarks such as the Novotel Sydney on Darling Harbour and the forthcoming redevelopment of Harbourside Shopping Centre.
Handwritten Collection, Accor’s boutique offering in the collection brands segment, continues to expand its global portfolio with Hotel Woolstore 1888 as its latest addition.
