Speaking, sharing and connecting: Why NoVacancy stands out
Op-Ed: NoVacancy through the eyes of Emily Stephens, "It's a must attend for all accommodation professionals!"
NoVacancy has become a highlight on the calendar for anyone in the accommodation industry. Whether you’re an operator, a supplier, or somewhere in between, the conference offers so much value in one place. It’s the one time of year when moteliers, hoteliers, and suppliers from across Australia and New Zealand all come together under one roof.
For moteliers and hoteliers, it’s a chance to connect with suppliers, see what’s new, and even snap up a few great bargains. More than that though, it’s a golden opportunity to learn about trends, tools, and how others in the industry are approaching the same challenges we all face.

This year, the learning opportunities were, as always, incredibly strong. With so much happening across the two days, I’ll admit I missed a few presentations because I was caught up in valuable conversations.
That’s the challenge of NoVacancy, you want to be everywhere at once.

Of the sessions I did make it to, the Revenue Management and Technology summits were real highlights, offering fresh ideas and practical takeaways. And of course, the Small Hoteliers Summit holds a special place for me.
It’s always inspiring to be part of the discussions that reflect the day-to-day realities of running an accommodation business.
That’s one of the things I love about NoVacancy: it’s not just about products or presentations, it’s about conversations. Creating a vibrant mix of people who are passionate about this industry and motivated to grow and improve their businesses.

Another highlight for me is always catching up with suppliers and operators I’ve met over the years. Those familiar faces make the event feel like a community gathering, and it’s rewarding to see how everyone’s businesses have grown and changed since we last crossed paths.
The conversations often pick up right where they left off, and there’s a real sense of shared experience that you don’t find anywhere else.

Once again, I had the privilege of speaking at the Small Hoteliers Summit. I joined Natalie Phillips from The Crossing Motel in Junee to talk through some of the struggles operators are facing and different ways to overcome them.
Followed by a presentation on a topic close to my heart: helping operators get organised and reduce the overwhelm of running a busy accommodation business. Focusing on showing how smooth and simple systems can make day-to-day operations more manageable, free up headspace, and create time to focus on guests and business growth.

The Small Hoteliers Summit was located away from the main floor this year, which meant the room was full of focused operators, eager to learn and ready to take new ideas back to their businesses. As a speaker, it was incredibly rewarding to be part of those conversations and to see how much people value the chance to learn from each other.
In my view, NoVacancy is an event every accommodation professional should experience at least once. It’s a rare chance to gather so much knowledge, meet so many people, and gain so much inspiration all in one place.
