Design with a local heartbeat
The hotel’s interiors are by Flack Studio, with Founding Director David Flack describing the collection as layered and energetic. “Each piece speaks to Melbourne’s energy, its creativity, and its urban pulse, so guests feel the city as soon as they walk in,” he said.
Art is embedded throughout the building:
-
Justene Williams’ Mirror Sheila holds court in the foyer
-
Marion Abraham reimagines the pastoral portrait in the lift lobby
-
Jazz Money’s poem These Infinite Beginnings appears across light and sound installations
-
A bespoke bronze Queensbridge Owl by Joelle Mayberry marks a key entrance
Additional works from Mia Boe, Kat Shapira Wood, Claudia Terstappen, Isadora Vaughan, Victoria Stolz, Jo Duck, Georgia Spain, Mikala Dwyer, and Hannah Gartside add depth and texture, building a living gallery that mirrors the city outside.

Built for the 15-minute neighbourhood
Developer Tim Price of Time & Place says Southbank’s connected, walkable design shaped the concept. “By embedding Hannah St Hotel into this urban fabric, it becomes more than accommodation, it’s a gateway to the city’s cultural heart and an integral part of a thriving, sustainable precinct,” he said.
Minatsis added that “live like a local” experiences will keep unfolding. Guests can expect playful touches that nod to Melbourne’s creative habits, from an onsite podcast studio to a Parisian-inspired terrace for spritzes among greenery.

Notes for the detail-minded
Hannah St Hotel sits at 19 Walker Street, Southbank, and is part of Collection by TFE Hotels, a portfolio of one-of-a-kind properties known for design and community connection. The name honours Patrick Hanna, an 1850s engineer and shipbuilder whose Yarra River punt route helped shape what is now Kings Way. The site was once known as Hanna Street; the extra “H” that crept in over time quietly echoes Melbourne’s own evolution from gold rush port to cultural capital.
The hotel is independently owned and operated by TFE Hotels. While Flack Studio also designed Ace Hotel Sydney’s interiors, there is no brand connection between the two properties.
