1834 Hotels appoint former SATC CEO Rodney Harrex as new Chief Executive Officer

Rod Harrex appointed as CEO of 1834 Hotels following previous role as COO

1834 Hotels has appointed Rod Harrex as Chief Executive Officer as the company positions for accelerated growth across its hotel and tourism portfolio.

Mr Harrex brings years of senior leadership experience across Australia’s tourism and hospitality sectors, including extensive work in destination development and commercial strategy at both the South Australian Tourism Commission and Tourism Australia. Having initially joined 1834 Hotels as Chief Operating Officer in 2025, he has been instrumental in strengthening operational performance across the groups 60 managed properties.

“Rod’s appointment reflects both the maturity of our organisation and the scale of opportunity ahead,” said Andrew Bullock, founder of 1834 Hotels, who will transition to Executive Chairman.

“His track record in tourism, combined with his intimate understanding of our business model and our owners’ priorities, makes him the right leader for this next chapter.”

Mr Bullock’s move to Executive Chairman will enable greater focus on strategic growth initiatives, new development opportunities, and expansion of the company’s management portfolio across regional and metropolitan Australia / New Zealand.

Mr Harrex said his priorities include accelerating the company’s expansion, delivering growth for owners, and building on the culture that has driven 1834 Hotels success to date.
