ATEC MP26 looks to the future of inbound tourism

More than 500 tourism industry leaders will come together in Hobart for the Australian Tourism Export Council’s Meeting Place 2026

More than 500 tourism industry leaders will come together in Hobart this October for the Australian Tourism Export Council’s (ATEC) Meeting Place 2026 (MP26), with a newly released program focused on the forces reshaping Australia’s international visitor economy.

Held from 26–28 October, Meeting Place brings together international tourism buyers, Australian tourism businesses and industry leaders for three days of business appointments, networking and industry discussion.

ATEC Managing Director Peter Shelley said this year’s program was designed around the practical challenges and opportunities facing tourism businesses.

“The international tourism landscape is changing rapidly – from the way visitors discover and book travel to the influence of technology, changing distribution models and important growing and emerging markets,” Mr Shelley said.

“Meeting Place gives our industry the opportunity to do business, but also to step back and understand what is changing and what that means for the future.”

The program will examine changing traveller behaviour, China and India, tourism distribution and automation, alongside a data-led session from Localis challenging commonly held assumptions about inbound tourism and regional dispersal.

The main conference will also feature tourism and technology entrepreneur Rod Cuthbert presenting 30 Years of Distribution: What Happens Next?, exploring the evolution of online travel distribution, technology-driven disruption and how AI is set to reshape tourism businesses and the way travel is sold.

“More than 500 people coming together in Hobart represents an enormous concentration of tourism expertise and opportunity, connecting Australian tourism businesses with the people who sell Australia around the world,” Mr Shelley said.

Meeting Place 2026 will be held in Hobart from 26 to 28 October.
