AAA Welcomes WA Development

The new Pilbara Hotel development has been heralded by Accommodation Association of Australia.

CEO Richard Munro says, “The revised plan for a new hotel in the Pilbara city of Port Hedland is a significant development in the Australian accommodation landscape. Since the Sydney Olympics in 2000, the number of new tourism accommodation developments in Australia has dwindled, which demonstrates the importance of the new hotel resort that has been proposed.

“It’s no coincidence that the hotel is in a part of Australia where there is frequent and reliable business travel; in this case, the mining industry is responsible for the vast majority of business tourism. At the same time, when complete, the new development, with its high-standard facilities, has the potential to provide a much-needed reason for more domestic and overseas visitors to travel to the region.

“According to Tourism WA, the tourism industry contributes $6 billion annually to the WA economy, with around $2.2 billion of this from regional areas of the state.

“It is vital that local authorities do everything in their power to ensure the new hotel is as successful as possible and unnecessary challenges that some accommodation businesses across Australia are facing, such as additional charges and red tape, are kept to an absolute minimum.

“The new development also takes us a step closer to achieving Tourism Australia’s goal of 40,000 new accommodation rooms within Australia by 2020 at occupancy rates of 75% or more.”
