RHG – Choice to go Separate Ways

Rendezvous Hospitality Group will take control of its own marketing in Asia Pacific after revealing it will split from Choice Hotels next June as part of a new regional development strategy.

RHG operates 14 hotels under the Rendezvous and The Marque brands in Asia Pacific. Choice Hotels has 280 franchises in Australasia.

“We have had a very good and mutually beneficial relationship with Choice and we would like to thank them for extending their support to us,” RHG chief executive Eric Teng said. “We now believe that the best way forward for RHG in the next phase of our growth is to build our brand and strengthen our presence in the Asia Pacific region.”

Based in Singapore, Rendezvous Hospitality Group is a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Straits Trading Co Ltd, a highly respected 120 year old Singapore company.

The Rendezvous Hospitality Group recently announced that its lease of The Marque Hotel Canberra will expire on 30 November 2011 and will not be renewed in light of plans by the owners to redevelop the property.

“It is unfortunate that The Marque Hotel Canberra, one of our longstanding hotels will soon cease operation. However, from now till closure of the hotel, it will be business as usual and we will be taking bookings until the 30th November 2011. As a course of action we are looking to place staff currently employed at The Marque Hotel Canberra within the RHG network” said Geoffrey Johnstone, the senior vice president of operations.
