Uni to Double Student Accommodation
Plans of a new development that will almost double student accommodation at the University of Newcastle’s Callaghan Campus have been released.
The institution had submitted a development application to Newcastle City Council for the long-awaited project. It has been billed as a residential village that will feature the highest standards of environmentally sensitive design.
The project is expected to relieve some of the housing shortage around the university and make it easier for students to find a room on campus.
Construction is scheduled to begin in stages at the start of next year and students are expected to move in from 2014.
The new residential precinct is part of a $100 million package that includes refurbishments to existing accommodation.
