Bedarra sold to Charlton, Dunk to follow

The Charlton Hotel Group will revamp the exclusive Bedarra Island Resort on the Great Barrier Reef.

Charlton, which owns four Brisbane hotels and motels, paid about $6 million for the far north Queensland resort that was closed after Cyclone Yasi. The resort was part of the Hideaway Resorts portfolio and negotiations are nearing settlement for the sale of neighbouring Dunk Island.

Charlton said it would refurbish the Bedarra after the results of a sustainability analysis of the resort are known, which could see fewer villas on the island and a shorter season.

“We recognise that Bedarra is a unique resort in a unique location,” Charlton Hotel Group general manager Sam Charlton said.
