CHOGM praise ensures service program will continue

The hotel industry in Western Australia intends to continue its new hospitality industry training program Service With a Smile

launched in the lead up to the recent Commonwealth Head of Government Meeting after the program’s success during the high-profile event.

Prime minister Julia Gillard and WA premier Colin Barnett as well as world leaders in Perth for CHOGM congratulated WA accommodation providers and hospitality businesses and staff for their successful hosting of the event that saw more than $15 million spent by CHOGM attendees on accommodation and a further $15 million on food and beverage.

AWA (WA) chief executive Bradley Woods said more than 7000 people had undertaken its Service with a Smile customer service program prior to the start of CHOGM. The program was developed by the AHA (WA) and supported by Tourism WA and the WA state government with the aim of providing an industry-wide commitment to exceptional customer service.

“Perth hotel and hospitality businesses and their staff have proved to international and interstate visitors that Western Australia can deliver world class events with excellent service,” Mr Woods said. “Due to the success of the program, WA Service with a Smile online training will continue to be available to all hospitality and tourism businesses into the future.”
