Eighth ‘Opera in Paradise’ Festival gets Underway on Norfolk

For the past seven years, lovers of opera, song and popular classics have gathered on Norfolk Island for the annual ‘Opera in Paradise’ Festival.

Fine singers and musicians from Australia and New Zealand fly in to entertain attendees who enjoy a unique seven-day musical holiday.

The 2012 Festival Week offers six different concerts as well as a ‘Sundowners with the Artists’ reception. It is booked as part of a complete seven-day holiday package. ‘Up Close and Personal’ is the order of the day as music-lovers not only enjoy intimate performances of their favourite pieces, but have the rare opportunity to socialise with the performers who have joined them on the island. This boutique Festival is run by highly respected, independent company Operatif! And such is the appeal that many attend a second, third, even fourth time offering accolades including, ‘The experience of a lifetime’ and ‘The perfect musical holiday!’

In 2012 the artists include soprano Jennifer Parish and baritone Stewart Cameron from Operatif!, popular NZ-based tenor, Benjamin Fifita Makisi, (well known outside the opera world, as the voice that often sends the All Blacks into battle with a stirring anthem rendition!) Legendary concert pianists, Max Olding and Pamela Page will also perform, joining fellow musicians, brilliant accompanist, John Woods and violinist, Spiros Rantos.

There will be many Festival highlights from the nine-strong cast, with concerts of popular opera, operetta and song, piano solos and duets as well as violin masterpieces.

Festival attendees can choose to stay anywhere on the island, with a wide range of accommodation and prices to choose from.
