Post Offices muscle in on travel bookings

Australians planning a holiday or a business trip now only need to go to the post office for foreign currency exchange,

passports, travel insurance, flights and bookings.

As part of the launch of its first “super store” at the Brisbane GPO, Australia Post announced a range of new services that will see it become the one-stop-shop for travel related services. Australia Post has announced a new partnership with American Express to offer currency exchange outlets in 200 of its post offices across the country staffed by American Express foreign exchange specialists. This will complement existing over the counter foreign currency services where customers can order online or in person for collection at more than 3200 stores across the country.

“More and more Australians are travelling overseas and it’s great to be able to partner with leading brands and our licensees to simplify the travel experience. In the last financial year alone we processed over 1.5 million passport applications,” said Christine Corbett, Australia Post’s executive general manager retail services.

To provide travellers with peace of mind Australia Post has also launched its own travel insurance product. Competitively priced and delivering quality cover, plans available include an International Comprehensive Plan, Domestic Plan and Basic Plan for the more price conscious traveller.

In another first for Australia Post, the Brisbane GPO will feature a dedicated Harvey World Travel outlet where customers can access a full range of travel booking services from domestic and international flights, to worldwide accommodation, cruises, car, rail and coach touring.
