Hotel’s beer has flowed non-stop for 140 years

The Bridge Hotel at Forth in Tasmania celebrated its 140th birthday on the weekend.

Chris and Maureen Bramich have owned the pub for nearly 16 years and were proud to host its 140th birthday celebrations last weekend with a spit roast, live music and giveaways.

The pub, which is now up for sale, has a rich history and has witnessed many a cold beer being sunk, poisoned dogs, a murdered publican, floods and fires. When the fire went through, they grabbed the keys and kept serving the beer outside.’

The building’s facade remains more or less the same as it was in 1872, around the time it was used as a rallying point for a good old-fashioned English hunt.

The hotel was furnished with local timber, which was made at Don, and it still features an original Blackwood pew
