Royal Brunei Upgrades to Daily Services to Melbourne

Royal Brunei Airlines will increase its direct flights between the Brunei capital and Melbourne to a daily service; a further sign of Victoria’s strength as an aviation and tourism hub in Australia, minister for tourism and major events Louise Asher announced this week.

“I am delighted that Royal Brunei Airlines has decided to increase services from four times weekly to daily starting this March,” Ms Asher said. “The bourgeoning relationship between Victoria and Royal Brunei Airlines is going from strength to strength and I look forward to continuing this mutually beneficial relationship.”

Ms Asher said the decision by the airline followed its inaugural flight to Melbourne in March last year and discussions with the Victorian coalition government.

“The coalition government recognises Victoria’s competitive position as a global tourism destination is reliant upon its air service capabilities. We will continue to work strategically with Melbourne Airport and other partners to grow our $15.2 billion tourism sector which employs over 193,000 people.

“South-East Asia is one of Victoria’s fastest growing markets and these additional Royal Brunei Airlines services will enable greater tourism and trade linkages and opportunities across this valuable growth market. Additionally, the services will improve connections and flexibility for passengers travelling between Melbourne and London,” Ms Asher said.

Royal Brunei non-stop scheduled services between the capital Bandar Seri Begawan and Melbourne will operate daily from 25 March using Boeing 777-200 aircraft.
