$11m refurb for Melbourne Rydges events space

Rydges Southbank in Melbourne has begun an $11 million dollar refurbishment to change the look and feel of its function and events space

and introduce a bar and restaurant concept inspired by high-end New York dining.

The new 2887m² podium level will feature five function rooms capable of hosting up to 500 people.

General manager Patrick Lonergan said, “We are introducing some impressive technologies to all of our function spaces including iPad connectivity, which will mean our corporate clients can fully automate their meetings,” he said. “The boutique style interiors coupled with the natural light minimises that ‘underground’ feel common to so many functions and events spaces.”

Mr Lonergan said the hotel’s new bar and restaurant concept, titled Bacchus after the god of wine and indulgence, would also add value to function guests.

The Rydges Hotel façade will also be given a new and improved street appeal with changes including vertical gardens, new porte cochére and four new retail spaces.

The Podium level is due for completion in September 2012 with retail space completed and ready for leasing enquiries by mid 2012.
