Cairns resort proposal unlikely to happen

An innovative accommodation concept developed for the Cairns Central Business District is being pushed by the owners of the Novotel Cairns Oasis Resort.

The 4000m² site is on the corner of Lake and Florence streets next to the resort.

Development features include: a 10-level high limit with 100% site coverage available if required for the first three levels; capacity for up to 100 two- bedroom permanent or holiday-style apartments; commercial office space on the ground and first floors; retail, restaurant or cafe space on the ground floor.

The site has no development approvals and is zoned tourist and residential. It is owned by BRCP Oasis Land and has an unimproved capital value of $3.3 million.

Marketing agent Danny Betros said it was unlikely the concept would come to fruition, it gave buyers an idea of its potential.

Mr Betros said the property was in an ideal location, one block from the Esplanade and 200m from the Lagoon, two blocks to City Place and three blocks to the Cairns Central shopping centre.
