Kangaroo Island gets $6m campaign boost

A new $6 million SA Tourism Commission campaign promoting Kangaroo Island is designed to attract people to a simpler and more adventurous kind of holiday.

The campaign rolled out this week to SA television audiences and will move to the eastern states in coming weeks through Fairfax Media in The Age and the Sydney Morning Herald and their websites. It will also air on national television over the next weeks and Qantas flights and cinemas will also air the ads.

The soundtrack is performed by Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder and the theme is unashamedly borrowed from children’s classic book Where the Wild Things Are. Mr O’Loughlin said the children in the campaign were a metaphor for adventure and discovery.

The campaigns tagline is Let yourself go. He said the connotation was for people to allow themselves to be isolated, to recuperate from the stresses of inner-city life. It targets those who want an active holiday not a passive one.
