Australian ad team for TripAdvisor

The Australian office of travel site TripAdvisor has estabilshed a display advertising team that will be led by Ela Wolski, who returns to Australia from Singapore where she was TripAdvisor’s sales manager for Southeast Asian region.

Ms Wolski’s role is to develop and lead the expansion of client and media agency relationships within Australia and New Zealand.

Martin Verdon-Roe, vice president of display advertising for TripAdvisor, said, “Through Ela, we aim to build and develop new and exciting ways for advertisers to reach our audiences around the world in the most meaningful way. Our goal is to always provide a great user and advertiser experience.”

Meanwhile TripAdvisor has pulled a new ratings system after negative feedback from the hospitality industry. The system allowed hotel ratings to be posted without reviews or comments.

TripAdvisor has been collecting ratings for hotels and other products such as activities, restaurants and attractions since November last year, a process where users could simply score a property on a scale of one to five, without leaving an actual review. The site officially started showing the ratings against products earlier this week, but an outpouring of negative comments about its launch on forums and the hotel management centre intranet has led to it suspending the feature.

TripAdvisor admits it has “some work to do” with its implementation, thus the suspension last week.
