NT government backflips on tourism
In a massive turnaround, the Northern Territory Country Liberals government has abolished Tourism NT and is re-instating its former head of a re-established Tourism Commission.
Tourism NT chief executive John Fitzgerald, formerly from the Sunshine Coast, will be replaced later this year by the former head of the Tourism Commission Tony Mayell. Mr Mayell was appointed chief executive of Tourism Tasmania in May 2011 and is now leaving after only 15 months in the role to return to Darwin. Mr
Mayell held the NT position until sweeping changes were made by the former Labor government that has lost office after 11 years in power.Mr Fitzgerald’s contract is not being renewed and he will leave his role in December.
