Peninsula Boutique Hotel

A luxurious retreat overlooking the beautiful Four Mile Beach in Port Douglas, the Peninsula Boutique Hotel has built up a reputation as a peaceful oasis for couples and honeymooners since opening in August 2000.

Surrounded by lush tropical gardens, the 34 contemporary-style one-bedroom suites have all the mod cons with 26 of the rooms boasting beach and ocean views. Suites on offer include Hotel Studio Rooms, Pool View Suites, Ocean View, Coral Sea Spa and Peninsula Suites, combining both hotel service and self-catering. On-site owners and hosts Sheryn and Phil Blundstone say the personal service guests receive is one that only a small hotel can offer and one they pride themselves on.

With a strong attention to detail, nothing has been forgotten and all suites have been designed with the guest in mind, featuring spacious balconies, large living and dining areas and a discreetly concealed kitchenette with fridge, freezer, dishwasher and microwave. Each room has a large en-suite bathroom with separate walk-in shower and huge contoured twin soaker bath, complimentary use of bathrobes, eco-friendly bathroom amenities and aromatherapy burners. For convenience suites also boast digital clock radios, cordless telephones, DVD players, stereo, iPod docking stations, wifi Internet access and flat screen televisions with complimentary nine-channel Austar. Sheryn points out that all rooms have plungers with Arabica coffee, a wide selection of local and international herbal teas and the Peninsula and Coral Spa Suites each have Lavazza Espresso coffee machine. All suites have air-conditioning and ceiling fans to accommodate the climate and to compliment the surrounds relaxing contemporary music is played throughout the reception, waiting areas, pool area, restaurant and decks day and night and in the evening candles and large gas flares provide a romantic atmosphere. Guests can enjoy a daily maid service, lift access to all floors, complimentary Internet vouchers, an extensive book and DVD library available 24 hours a day and complimentary return Cairns airport transfers for stays of three nights or more.

AN44-1-Peninsula-BalconyUpon arrival all guests receive a welcome pack and are given a tour of the facilities and taken to their suites where exotic tropical flower arrangements and chocolates await them in their room.

The Peninsula Boutique Hotel has a beautiful outdoor area with heated pools, a waterfall, spa, submerged grotto and an on-site beachside restaurant called Hi Tide Beach Bar Restaurant. Guests can enjoy a full buffet breakfast each day (as part of their tariff), lunch or dinner in the restaurant or relax in the cosy bar.

Sheryn says this beachfront hideaway has been a favourite among locals for a long time. “It affectionately got its name because locals say the tide brings you here if you are looking to relax with a drink and soak up the ocean breeze,” she says. Locals also say the bar has the best cocktail and rum selection around, as well as having an amazing selection of boutique and local style beers. Overlooking the Coral Sea and still being in the heart of Port Douglas, Hi Tide Beach Bar and Restaurant offers a classic cuisine with a contemporary edge providing fresh seafood, modern Australian cuisine, Asian, Indian and Mediterranean dishes. Whether you love a bucket of prawns straight off the trawler, fish and chips or slow roasted lamb shanks, you will find something to entice the taste buds here. Hi Tide combines fine dining with friendly, casual beachside hospitality and whether dining, sipping a wine or cocktail or enjoying a good coffee, the ocean views and welcoming staff make it a truly memorable experience.

While the Peninsula Boutique Hotel is exquisite on its own, the location is also a huge drawcard as Port Douglas is the gateway to the magnificent Great Barrier Reef and Daintree Rainforest. Only 70km north of Cairns International Airport, Port Douglas is a cosmopolitan tropical destination attracting international celebrities, honeymooners, self-drive travellers, families and backpackers.

AN44-1-Peninsula-RoomSheryn explains that holidaymakers are truly spoilt for choice when they visit Port Douglas as it has the beautiful Four Mile Beach, superb golf courses, a trendy shopping village in the hub of town, the rainforest and much more. “You can basically go from business suit to barefoot and free,” she laughs. “The climate is seductive and balmy days turn into tropical evenings so it is easy to unwind and soak it all up.” Tourists wanting to explore the region can chat to staff at the Peninsula Boutique Hotel front desk as their local knowledge and experience can help guests decide on whether or not a pre-booked tour or a self drive hire car adventure is most suited to their needs, as well as helping them get the best rates possible. Popular attractions include trips out to the reef, tours through the Daintree Rainforest and up to Cape Tribulation, local wildlife parks and sanctuaries where holidaymakers can feed a crocodile or hold a koala, the crystal clear creeks of Mossman Gorge, the Atherton Tablelands or many of the more adventurous activities like skydiving, white-water rafting, scuba diving or cable skiing.
