Plans for ‘several’ hotels at Fisherman’s Bend
Melbourne could see several hotels built as part of the Fishermans Bend redevelopment opposite Victoria Harbour if a concept proposed by urban planner Brian Haratsis is adopted.
Victoria planning minister Matthew Guy said it was an impressive idea that would help solve Melbourne’s hotel room shortage and is considering including the proposal in the structure plan for the Lorimer precinct in Fishermans Bend.
“If you have four or five major hotels in one precinct then obviously it gives a huge level of service industry success underneath it,” he said. “It would activate restaurants in the southern part of Docklands and could be like the hotel precinct that serves Disneyland in Los Angeles.”
