Newcastle to get airport hotel
Hilton Grugeon has won approval for a 95-room hotel at Newcastle Airport.
The Mercure Newcastle Airport is scheduled to open late next year and will boast a restaurant, bar and conference rooms that can host 200 people.
Mr Grugeon hopes construction will get started later this year.
Newcastle Airport’s manager of aviation and business development David Nye says the new hotel should be a further boost to passenger numbers.
“When you look at where we may see people coming to and from, for us it’s about passengers that are possibly on the Central Coast or in the Upper Hunter that can come to the airport the night before, before flying out, as well as attracting business people to come and hold conferences.”
The Mercure hotel has been altered from an original two-stage plan that would have produced more rooms but the new plan retains potential for expansion.
