Sustainability: environmental initiatives prioritised

Hotelbeds Report: How organisation is making actions speak louder than words

Unveiling its annual Environmental, Social and Governance Report, Hotelbeds has highlighted the importance of global companies doing all they can in their power to protect the planet.

The main focus of the report, which follows the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards and is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), is to capture how Hotelbeds is working to move closer to a business model based on sustainable development.

In the report, Hotelbeds CEO, Nicolas Huss, explains how the organization is making its actions “speak louder than its words and to leverage its position to make a difference in this new world of travel.”

This, he said, is being achieved through the actions and commitments Hotelbeds is taking and through the determination of its employees to make a difference.

The report also covers a wide range of initiatives that Hotelbeds has carried out from October 1, 2020 to September 30, 2021.

This includes achieving carbon neutral status for the fourth year in a row, and working with Carbon Footprint Ltd, an independent body that accredits carbon management measurements of companies, to offset non-avoidable emissions.

Hotelbeds has also joined Amazon’s Climate Pledge in its commitment to urge global industries to tackle climate change and to reduce carbon emissions to zero by 2040, and has continued to add hotels to its Green Hotels Programme which now involves more than 20,000 properties.

In addition, the company is fully committed to the more human side of its business, a key component of its strategy being a diverse and inclusive workforce, now made up of 88 different nationalities with a strong female representation at all levels of the company, with 50 percent of the Executive Committee and 57 percent of its global workforce being women.

Mr Huss said Hotelbeds is committed to sustainability matters but also has the protection of human rights, the promotion of diversity & inclusion, the importance of being a responsible partner and employer very much in mind.

“In addition, combating worker exploitation where we see it and the prevention of child sexual exploitation – all of these are, I think, crucial for any company that operates on a global footprint,” he said.
