Six months after The Standard Hotels announced its plans to position its first Australian property in Melbourne, construction has now commenced on the $60 million project in Fitzroy.
The hotel group has partnered with private Melbourne developer DealCorp to build the 126-room property located in Rose Street, Fitzroy.
Hamilton Marino Builders has been appointed to undertake the build, bringing to life the seven-storey project which will feature architectures by Australian practice Woods Bagot while prominent locally-based design firm Hecker Guthrie will take on the role of interior designers.
According to the hotel group’s statement, The Standard’s distinct style of hospitality will be expressed in each of the 126 rooms, along with an intimate rooftop experience where revellers can enjoy the sights and sounds of the hotel’s vibrant Fitzroy location.
DealCorp’s executive chairman, David Kobritz is looking forward to breaking ground on the exciting project, saying the company is immensely proud to be part of the team bringing The Standard to Australia.

The new hotel is looking to open tis doors to guests in Q2, 2023.
Created in 1999, The Standard Hotels comprises seven hotels in New York, Los Angeles, Miami, most recently London and the Maldives, and the upcoming Asia flagship The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon.
