Post-COVID confidence “palpable”

Paradise Resort Gold Coast expecting busiest April on record

With its website traffic now the highest recorded since before the pandemic, and April bookings looking set to break all previously-set records, the Paradise Resort Gold Coast’s March business has exceeded all expectations writing more than $2.6 million in new bookings.

General manager, David Brook says the confidence since the end of most COVID restrictions is “palpable”, reflected by the fact that the resort is holding over 92 percent of budgeted occupancy for the first six months of 2022.

Thanking Queensland’s consumers for their efforts over the past 18 months which he said has enabled the resort to maintain its workforce and keep the business open, Mr Brooks said the Gold Coast’s ‘Stay & Play’ campaign had been the catalyst for a “dramatic increase” in bookings.

“We have relied so much on the local Queensland market for the past eighteen months,” Mr Brooks said.

“However, in the past few months, and in particular since January, momentum has been building to a level where in the past month we have seen a dramatic increase in bookings, with the “Stay and Play’ campaign with Gold Coast Tourism selling over 2,000 room nights from interstate.

“It is very pleasing to see the increased interest in our business from our southern cousins in terms of bookings.

“Traffic to our website has been the highest experienced since before COVID with the geo-source primarily showing maximum growth from Sydney and Melbourne.

“During March we have exceeded expectations writing over $2.6 million in new bookings, with April 2022 now expected to be our busiest April on record with package inclusions being the most popular option, including add-on of internal activities, meals, external theme parks and other local attractions.”

“The feedback is fairly obvious, most Australian families are not planning to travel overseas for at least the rest of the year unless it is to see family and friends.

“So domestic tourism has the opportunity to shine in 2022 – as long as it delivers the right product and the right service levels.”

Meanwhile, Paradise Resort Gold Coast has reaffirmed its position as Australia’s premier family resort, after being voted ‘Best Family Resort’ by readers of Holidays with Kids magazine for the 11th year in succession.

The award builds on the Surfers Paradise resort being named ‘Best Family Hotel/Resort in Australia’ by readers of Out & About with Kids last month.

The double accolade comes after owner Dr Jerry Schwartz invested massively in the hotel’s largest ever refurbishment including stylish new rooms, the launch of a new lobby and reception area, new dining venues, and the addition of even more kids’ friendly activities.

The makeover of the resort also includes a new games room, guest laundry and retail boutique, along with new food and beverage outlets.

The resort now offers Penguins family restaurant, Debs Pizza Shack, the Poolside Café and Bar and Jerrys Burgers.

At the heart of Paradise Resort’s success with families is its multi-million dollar kids’ recreation facilities, with the massive waterpark, Adventure Playground, and PLANET CHILL all fully refurbished and upgraded.

The exterior and interiors have been freshly repainted, high-speed wifi has been extended throughout the resort and a new environmentally-friendly ducted air-conditioning system has been installed.

“I haven’t stopped adding facilities for both kids and their parents,” Dr Schwartz said.

“We added a miniature ride-on railway last year, we’ve just added a hair salon for young girls, and soon we will launch a carousel,” said the ever-enthusiastic Dr Schwartz.

Paradise Resort General Manager, David Brook, said that after all the challenges the resort had to face in 2020 and 2021, the dual awards were a perfect way of heralding a ‘new era’ for the resort and the Gold Coast in 2022.

“We consider these awards to be very important, as their readers have voted with their feet, and many of them have been coming back to the resort for over a decade or more,” said Mr Brook.

“To stay at the top, though, you must continually invest in the product, and our owner – Dr Jerry Schwartz – used the COVID-lockdown periods to completely refresh the hotel, meaning even better facilities and entertainment value for families.

“The new rooms, the new facilities and the fresh new look of the resort have been really well received, and we blend that with familiarity and a real family-friendly ethos towards hospitality.

“We want parents to enjoy the experience as much as their children, and with two premier awards in a month, clearly we must be doing something right!”
