Airbnb has witnessed a significant surge in nights booked with pets (close to 50 percent) and is unveiling the latest pet travel trends based on pet-friendly demand and supply data with Brisbane, QLD one of the top 10 destinations globally.

Just over 27 percent of global listings on Airbnb are declared pet-friendly, a figure that has been consistently growing over the past five years. In Australia, Brisbane has been listed as one of the top destinations globally for pet holidays and Queenslanders have the highest number of pet nights booked in the country.

However it’s clear this winter season, Aussies are looking to take their furry friends to the snow with Alpine Victoria topping the list of number of pet nights booked this season, and the Snowy Mountains also ranking in the Top 5.

“We know people love travelling with their pets and for many, their four-legged friends are an extension of the family,” said Susan Wheeldon, Airbnb’s Country Manager for Australia and New Zealand.

“With so many pet-friendly options across Australia that suit a range of people and their priorities, travelling with pets and including them in holiday plans has never been easier.”

As travellers seek pet-friendly stays away from bustling cities, Airbnb analysed the percentage of non-urban pet-friendly stays.

The data reveals that Aussies are seeking pet-friendly stays away from bustling cities, with 49 percent of pet-friendly stays booked this winter situated in rural non-urban areas, emphasising a strong desire for their furry friends to get among the great outdoors.
